Role Overview

The Senior Application Developer will be working with Application Development teams across the USCG to design, develop, enhance, and sustain mission-critical applications. This role provides senior-level technical expertise, mentors junior developers, and works closely with government stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and compliant software solutions aligned with USCG standards. This is a remote position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of complex web-based and backend applications supporting USCG mission systems
  • Translate high-level functional and technical requirements into scalable, maintainable application architectures
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level developers
  • Support application modernization initiatives, including refactoring legacy systems and implementing cloud-native solutions
  • Integrate applications with databases, APIs, and external systems
  • Ensure applications comply with USCG cybersecurity, RMF, and ATO requirements
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, design artifacts, and operational runbooks
  • Support application deployment, troubleshooting, and performance optimization in lower and production environments

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 8+ years of experience in application development supporting enterprise systems
  • Strong experience with modern programming languages (e.g., Java, C#, Python, JavaScript)
  • Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs
  • Experience with PowerApps and ServiceNow
  • Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases
  • Experience working in Agile, DevSecOps, or CI/CD environments
  • Strong understanding of secure software development practices
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interface with government stakeholders
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a Public Trust.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting DHS or U.S. Coast Guard programs
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GovCloud
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience supporting systems undergoing RMF or ATO processes
